Log store in Timber Eco Shield Black

Smarten up outdoors

Why this look?

Even outdoor functional areas and structures need protection from the elements; so why not smarten them up and ensure they look stunning at the same time? A simple style using a muted palette can transform a forgotten log store or shed - go dark and it will sink into the backdrop of the garden, or go wild with colour to make a statement.

Wooden structures can be protected from the weather for many years in an easy, achievable and creative project; using a few tins of affordable water based woodcare paint.

What did we do?

Your utilitarian and practical buildings don’t need to be boring. We bought ours off the shelf, but you could adapt a shed of your own to add a log store on the side.

Exterior

The log store was painted in Timber Eco Shield Black which makes it blend into its surroundings.

Roof

Make sure your structure is strong enough to take the weight of the soil and turf, adding extra support if necessary. Put a waterproof membrane over the roof and batten along the edges to contain the turf and hold it in place. Lay the turf so you have as few joins as possible, making sure the edges are butted up closely against one another. Keep it well watered until it establishes. No need to mow, leave it to naturalise! You could also use Sedum to give a different look in a sunny spot.
