Wood Preserver ++ Application Guide

Protek Wood Preserver ++ is a water-based ready-to-use preservative. It contains active ingredients effective against moulds, wood destroying and wood discolouring fungi as well as against wood boring insects. It penetrates wood easily and thereby gets deep into inner layers. It is moisture regulating and provides an adhesive surface for subsequent treatment with finishing paints or stains (top coat). It has low VOCs and after drying is odourless.

Coverage

Effective against wood destroying fungi, blue stain and wood boring insects at 120ml/m (8.3m/litre) A 1 litre tin will cover approximately 6 - 8m²

Surface Preparation

New wood: No pre-treatment necessary

Renovation: All coatings should be completely removed. If necessary, grey, or deteriorated wood should be sanded down to a clean, sound surface.

Wood should be frost-free when treated.

Protek Wood Preserver ++ is a ready-to-use product and does not need to be diluted.

Stir well before use.

The product should be applied evenly in order to get best results.

Reseal container after use.

Compatilbility

Over coating of Protek Wood Preserver ++ is possible with most commercial solvent and water based final top coats. However, compatibility and adhesion should be tested in a sample.

Processing Temperature

10 – 30°C (matrix and product).

Apply By

Non-professional / Professional uses:  Apply by synthetic brush designed for water-borne products, spreading out thinly and evenly along wood texture.

 

Professional / industrial uses:  Dipping or flow coating in special facilities and equipment. Spraying in closed devices.

Drying Time

4-6 hrs under normal conditions (20oC/65% rel. humidity). Low temperatures, increased humidity and matrix characteristic may increase drying time. Allow a minimum of 24 hours drying time under normal conditions before application of a top coat.

Clean Up

Clean tools immediately after use with warm soap water, subsequently rinse with clear water or use commercial brush cleaner. Subsequent surface treatment: Treated surfaces must be coated with a suitable finishing paint (top coat). Apply the final top coat directly after drying of the primer on the surface.

Disposal

Completely empty cans can be recycled as normal. Dispose left over product in the original container in compliance with local regulations. Do not dispose product residues or cleaning wastes into the sewer system (drains), into waterways or into the soil. Do not reuse empty containers.

 

European Waste Code (EWC)-Code 03 02 02: organochlorinated wood preservative. 20 01 27: Municipal wastes (household waste and similar commercial, industrial and institutional wastes) including separately collected fractions: paint, inks, adhesives and resins containing dangerous substances. Wood preservatives contain biocidal active ingredients to protect wood against pests. They must be applied according to the instructions for use and only in those cases where protective measures are necessary and where they pose no practical risk to man. They should generally not be used in living or recreational areas. They must not be applied to wood which is likely to come into prolonged contact with the skin or to wood which comes into direct contact with food and feedstuffs.

Precautions

The precautions generally recommended for handling wood protection products should be observed, e.g. wearing of protective clothing, safety goggles and protective gloves (e.g. nitrile rubber gloves). When using do not eat, drink, or smoke. Handle product and dry freshly treated wood in areas with good ventilation. Keep freshly treated wood roofed or otherwise protected against rain until complete dryness. Do not breathe sanding dust. Wash hands and exposed skin before meals and after use. Avoid release to the environment. Do not empty into drains. Do not allow this product to reach aquatic environments, the ground or the sewer system. Protect environment (e.g. soil, plants, aquatic environment) from splashes of product. Do not apply in damp conditions or if rain is imminent.

 

PRECAUTIONARY INFORMATION

KEEP IN A SAFE PLACE. KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN. DO NOT CONTAMINATE FOODSTUFFS, EATING UTENSILS OR FOOD CONTACT SURFACES. Unprotected persons and animals should be kept away from the treated areas for 24 hours or until surfaces are dry.

*WASH HANDS AND EXPOSED SKIN before meals and after use.

*DO NOT TOUCH TREATED SURFACES UNTIL DRY
*UNPROTECTED PERSONS AND ANIMALS SHOULD BE KEPT AWAY FROM TREATED AREAS FOR 48 HOURS AND UNTIL SURFACES ARE DRY.
*AVOID ALL CONTACT WITH PLANT LIFE.
*COVER ALL WATER STORAGE TANKS before application.
*ALL BATS ARE PROTECTED UNDER THE WILDLIFE AND COUNTRYSIDE ACT 1981. BEFORE TREATING ANY STRUCTURE USED BY BATS, CONSULT NATURAL ENGLAND, SCOTTISH NATURAL HERITAGE OR THE COUNTRYSIDE COUNCIL FOR WALES.

Active ingredient: 0.7g/kg (0.7g/l) iodopropynyl butyl carbamate (IPBC) and 0.4g/kg (0.4g/l) Tebuconazole.
