Treat your stables with Protek Stable Coat

With our increasingly unpredictable weather, horses need protection from the elements, and not just with a good cosy rug! In the wild horses seek shelter below trees, along hedge lines and behind one another, so a good field shelter is essential if your horses are wintering outside. Although there is nothing more satisfying than putting your horse to bed on a cold wet evening swathed in rugs in a comfy stable.

It's time to check and do any maintenance that is required for your stables and field shelters. Being timber, they are susceptible to rot, fungi and weathering, even pressure treated timber needs good maintenance to make sure it lasts.

Checklist

1. Check for signs of rot, either replace timbers or retreat with a wood preservative.
2. Does the stable need retreating/painting, is it still waterproof.
3. Inspect the roof, is it going to let in rain or will the wind damage it.
4. Check the guttering, clean out any build up and repair if necessary.
5. Check doors and windows, make sure they don’t leak, use a water-proof coating.
6. Deep clean the inside of your stables, wash out and remove dust.
7. Lag the waterpipes.
