Win a hen house and paint worth £740

We are really excited to be partnering up with Flyte So Fancy this Spring to offer our biggest giveaway ever worth £740 www.flytesofancy.co.uk

Flyte so Fancy was set up by Phill and Anne in 2001 in a workshop at the bottom of their garden in Dorset. Then as now, they had a vision to sell beautifully designed and handmade wooden hen houses using their extensive knowledge of poultry keeping.

This spring we are giving away a Handy 10 chicken house worth £590 plus paint to the value of £150 making a total prize of £740.  The Handy 10 is a lovely little home that can house up to 10 chickens.  As it’s on wheels it is super portable and can be moved around the garden.  There is a ramp for easy access in and out, a detachable nesting box at the back and all parts are removable for easy cleaning. No wonder it is so popular.

The Flyte so Fancy team have painted the Handy 10 in two Protek colours. Royal Exterior Olive Green and Royal Exterior Pale Pistachio. We think it looks stunning. It is just waiting for its first residents!

All our paints are water based, with low VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds), no odour or hidden nasties which makes them safe to use with all types of bird.

There are over 100 colours in the range which means you can create a perfect home for your chickens whilst either creating a style statement or toning in with your garden scheme. Go and take a look

Olive Green is dark yellowish green. It is a sophisticated colour and is bang on trend this season.

Pale Pistachio is a light airy green that is a perfect modern pale colour.

With spring and summer approaching it is the perfect time to introduce chickens to your garden.  Here are few reasons why you should consider keeping chickens;

1. Healthy lifestyle – They provide you with a more self-sufficient lifestyle plus you know the whole process, what the animal has been fed and how it has been treated.

2. Super tasty fresh eggs.  There is something very rewarding when you collect freshly laid eggs. What’s more they taste so much nicer than a supermarket egg (which could be up to a month old) and the yolk is a bright orange.

3. Secret gardeners. They eat lots of bugs that could be destroying your garden. Plus their constant scratching of the soil releases more bugs and helps spread nutrients around.  Plus their poo is an amazing fertilizer as it’s full of nitrogen.

4. Low maintenance.  They take about 20 minutes a day to let them out, feed, water and lock them back in at night

5. Education. They are a great way to teach children about life, caring for something and being responsible.

This winter has been a real challenge for chicken farmers as Avian Flu has been sweeping across the country which has meant that chickens have had to be kept inside.  This has been very difficult as the birds need to be stimulated- thank goodness for classic FM!

Let’s hope the risk passes and the hens can get out and about soon.
